RE: last camp out

Last trip? Oh the pain!
We have two trips per month scheduled all the way through June.
Don't move out here though... there's too many people already!

RE: equalizer brand hitch

Interesting comments. I have over 10,000 miles on my hitch and I haven't had a single issue. I check the bolts every once in a while and lubricate the head as needed (I don't grease the "L" brackets). Beyond that, it's maintenance free.

RE: Rear Trailer Entry Door - Pros and Cons

That Nomad has a pretty sweet layout. It's an excellent use of space.

RE: Keeping Warm - safe and inexpensive.

If campgrounds start charging for electricity (weekend use) then I'll change my habits. Until then, I use two quiet ceramic heaters at night to keep the trailer comfortable and minimize the running of the furnace. We also have an electric mattress pad (which means we can run less heat up in our bedroom).
If there are no hookups, we still use the mattress pad (it's 12v) along with a Buddy heater (until bed time) and then it's all up to the furnace.

RE: Just bought a Starcraft Aruba Lite 29BHS!

Mileage? What mileage?
I don't even look but it's bad. I smile every time I hit the gas however so it doesn't matter.
I use an Equal-i-zer hitch system and it tows like a dream. I love my Suburban towing or not!

RE: Just bought a Starcraft Aruba Lite 29BHS!

Congratulations! That looks mighty familiar! We have a 2004 Starcraft Homestead 29BHS. It's a great trailer with good build quality and an awesome layout.
I would guess that your Aruba weighs about the same as ours since it's essentially the same trailer. Loaded for camping ours weighs in at 9,100 pounds so a 8.1 liter 3/4 Suburban (with 4.10 gears) is an excellent choice.
Enjoy that great new trailer!

RE: Traveling with fresh water tank full

Sounds fishy to me.
I always travel with a full or mostly full tank. I can handle the extra weight and you never know what's going to happen on your trip (campground water failure, breakdown, unexpected stops, etc.). It's cheap insurance.

RE: traveling with items in fridge

Always! We don't use any bars or other types of keepers and have not had any issues yet (well, except for our first trip when the wife forgot to latch the door).

My cleanouts are in the wrong place at home but not at my office where I keep my trailer!

RE: Portable fire pit

I have the dish shaped fire pit from Target. It zips into a padded case that sort of like like a thin spare tire. It's excellent because it lets the heat radiate out from the fire.
I know several people who have Pit2Go or washing machine tub fire pits and they great unless you want to get warm. The high sides reflect most of the heat back into the fire and not out to the circle of cold campers.
With regard to propane fire pits... there is no comparison between a nice warm crackling wood fire and a mass of hissing propane flames that put our marginal heat. I have a Little Red Campfire that only gets used when wood fires are prohibited (which is too often in Southern California) and it's a poor substitute indeed.

RE: Cool Mods

Wow! rhillx4... did you actually close off the storage space under the bed? That's a lot of useful space to lose!
With regard to jack by the axles, I did this a few months ago and it really made a big difference. It really takes out the bounce.

RE: Progressive insurance is no good

I think Progressive is giving you a snow job. It's obvious that something penetrating the roof is not related to maintenance.
I'd go up the ladder and if that doesn't work to the state insurance commission. Don't take no on this for an answer.

RE: 911

I was home sleeping with my phone and pager turned off because we had our three week old daughter in the room. My partner finally called the house phone and woke us up. My wife wouldn't let me turn on the TV in the bedroom so I had to run to another room (in time to see the collapse unfortunately). My wife was still getting mad and the sounds I was making... she had no idea how bad it really was.
Didn't get a lot done that day. Come to work for a while and let everyone go home.
A very sad day.

RE: Low clearance gets another one...

Eight feet! Wow! I don't think my Jeep would even fit under that.
I wonder if there are additional signs further up the road? Then again, it doesn't really matter since he wasn't paying attention anyway.
I would think something that low deserves a sign up the road and some flashing lights. It's sad but true.

RE: Weber Q for a family of 6?

On the Weber Q grills, the regulator and control are two separate parts. You simply unscrew the regulator and then get the proper fittings for your low pressure application.
Mike
I can make a table for my RVQ holder (which mounts to the side of the trailer) and remove the regulator to run the grill right off my low pressure quick connect.
Mike
Why and how do you remove the regulator? Bobby

RE: Weber Q for a family of 6?

I just purchased a 200 for the house and it's a great grill. I cooked for fifteen people two weeks ago and it was no problem. I really like how the design controls flare ups and it cooked very fast and evenly.
I have an RVQ on my trailer which is very convenient. However, I'm so impressed with the Q that I'm seriously thinking of switching over. I can make a table for my RVQ holder (which mounts to the side of the trailer) and remove the regulator to run the grill right off my low pressure quick connect.
I'd probably just get a 120 for the trailer instead of taking the larger 200 but since either one would have to go into my front storage compartment (rather than the rear where I keep the RVQ) it may make more sense just to bring the 200.
I have the stand for home but wouldn't need it for the trailer. If I didn't have the RVQ bracket I would use the stand camping for sure.

RE: A story and a question????

I think Wayne is talking about an Add-A-Vent vacuum breaker. Those are often used on grey tanks but not on the black. They have a diaphragm that allows air to enter the tank but not escape. The same goes for fluids escaping (unless the tank is highly pressurized). Home Depot does not sell them. The only place I've seen them are plumbing supply houses.
Regardless, it's not part of the problem. A vent is not hooked up right or there is a failure in a tank or pipe. It needs to go back to the selling dealer for service.

RE: Dealer going out of business. Do you pick up your trailer?

I agree... have him talk to the bank ASAP. I would stop payment on the check. If they're telling him to come get the trailer now without the services and parts they were supposed to supply (brake controller, PDI, etc.) then they have not (and cannot) fulfill their side of the purchase agreement.
Cancel the check pronto!
